Sausalito Art Festival Paints & Rocks the Shores of the Bay

Wow! Don’t miss this one. The music lineup is tremendous this year from Legendary Blues Star Charlie Musselwhite to Rock Stars Edgar Winter and Todd Rundgren to the popular Tribute Band – the Unauthorized Rolling Stones. (Entire three-day lineup at end of article.)
And the art? The art is phenomenal. Over 260 award-winning artists from around the country, selected by a rigorous jury process, will showcase reflection, innovation and beauty to over 30,000 art patrons in the waterfront village of Sausalito on the Bay on Labor Day weekend. One of the oldest, most prestigious and most anticipated open-air art events in the country—the Sausalito Art Festival has set the standard for eminence, diversity, innovation and scope of artistry for more than 60 years.
Music and art along with a cornucopia of gourmet food, beer and wine, Yoga paddle boarding and more — the art festival transforms Sausalito into a village of artistic expression and community. The amazing thing is that it takes over 1,000 volunteers to keep this festival alive and moving!

Celebrating its 64th year, the Sausalito Art Festival has a year-long juried selection process that ensures that the vitality of the festival is infused with a blend of artistic media and excellent artists – a good mix of returning and new artists.

Motion 1 by Anna Choi
One of my favorites is Anna Choi from Oakland, whose artwork reached out to me with her dynamic use of color. She produces 2-D Media, paintings, prints and rugs.
Anna talked about her artwork. “My paintings come directly from my imagination, as inspired by nature, culture and everyday life. They are related in a spontaneous, intuitive, impromptu and frequently experimental process.
“My work begins with a single brush, single stroke, unfolds through a journey of self-discovery and culminates in a rich and energetic visual experience. Importantly, I have found true joy, passion and expression through my work. My work reflects emotional value, rich textures and cohesive composition. It means a lot to share my experience and experimentation. ”

She explained how she works with color.
“I love mixing tons of colors. All these vibrant, rich hues inspire me to create something new spontaneously, a sense of joy. It’s magical. It’s intuitive by simply observing shapes and forms. I explore and use bold colors with many layers often experimenting with different medium.” Anna Choi has exhibited at the Sausalito Art Festival for seven years and has sold quite a few pieces. She says she likes it because there is such a diverse audience and because her work makes a statement and is visually stimulating, people come to understand the process.
