Halloween Dance Party + Dia de los Muertos Kick off the Holidays!

Are you howlin’ for a good time as we begin the season? Ready to dance? Check out these upcoming virtual events at Rhythmix Cultural Works. “We are continually finding new ways to make the arts engaging for the community during quarantine,” comments Jennifer Radakovich, assistant director. “Join us for Rhythmix’s two new events on the horizon: Halloween MashUP and Día de los Muertos with Cascada de Flores.”

Rythmix Halloween Mashup is a virtual costume-dance party with live music and bingo held on Zoom Saturday, October 31, 7–9pm. Dress up, let loose and win Spooktacular prizes! Join Mr. Entertainment and the Yay Girls for an unforgettable evening of ghoulish music, Halloween-themed live entertainment, and dance in this outrageously fun MashUP extravaganza. The ghastly guest list includes:

  • Live soul-screaming swing with Steve “Un”Lucky & Carmen “Ghoul”-it
  • Vaudeville Nouveau with Count Spockula & Frankie, the “Halloweenies”
  • Boo-tylicious Beats with Bryan “Boogeyman” Dyer
  • 3 rounds of Halloween-themed Bingo hosted by Mr. Entertainment

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos the next day, Sunday November 1 at 11am, with Cascada de Flores – Una Ofrenda Musical recorded for Rhythmix Performance, Art, and Learning Program. Días de Muertos is a special time between October 31st and November 2nd for people to celebrate the members of their family, their community, or the world who have passed away. You are invited to dance and sing with Cascada de Flores on a musical journey sharing Dias de Muertos traditions from Mexico and Central America. Together you will write messages for your muertitos on barriletes (kites), learn about calaveras (sugar skulls), and build an ofrenda (altar) with music, dance and memories for your muertitos.

Cascada de Flores is a bi-national combination of musicians who find the joy of creation, individual expression, and musical communication within Mexican and Latin traditions. Members Arwen and Jorge will join the stream live at the end of the show for a 20 minute Q&A. Get more details and register online!
