The Experience, Alameda: Rhythmix Cultural Works Concert

The Experience:

In the Spirit of Lennon

Many of us grew up as fans of the Beatles and sadly, John Lennon left us early. Join Rhythmix Sunday, October 9 from 7-9pm for an intimate acoustic celebration of the life and music of John Lennon.

Drew Harrison of The Sun Kings presents a loving, emotionally charged retrospective of the life and career of John, one of the most popular artists of all time, told through stories and songs from The Beatles years through the final recordings of his life.

Gifted with the most natural, effortless Lennon voice in the music world, Harrison has been performing John’s songs and weaving the tales and anecdotes that go along with them for nearly two decades.

Drew will be accompanied on piano by the talented Tommy Cosentino to further enhance this acoustic celebration of the music of John Lennon on his birthday!

Take a listen – you may agree with Bob Brown.

“Drew has a great voice. His Lennon is impeccable.” –Bob Brown, former Manager – Huey Lewis and the News

Island City Waterways’ Uprooted Tells Story of Alameda Point!

Connecting Cultures – Connecting Community – Saturday & Sunday, May 21 & 22, 10am – 4:30pm

A new cast of 35 musicians and dancers will tell the story of Alameda Point – a site that served as an airport for the PanAm China Clippers in the 1920s, became a naval air station that staged four wars, and is now being repurposed, fulfilling the promise of a community’s future. Sat/Sun, May 21/22 at Alameda’s West Mall Square.

Audiences will join ODC/Dance, 13th Floor, Maze Daiko and Akira Tana Trio on a 75-minute, outdoor performance art walk that takes them on a journey from the wings of peace to the wings of war and from boot camp to WWII internment camp. Along the way, audiences are invited to attend a 1930’s air race, participate in a swing dance lesson, and experience an 18-piece taiko ensemble honoring the resilience of the human spirit.
