The Experience, Alameda: Mosley’s Cafe + Trail Walk

The Experience:

The morning that turned into a treat!

You’ve been in this situation. You are on deadline plus, you have to deliver something somewhere and you have to walk the dog. I experienced it yesterday morning. Strapped by time, I threw the dog in the car along with SF on the Bay’s Alameda Trail Guides and drove to Mosley’s Café at the end of Grand Ave near the boat ramp – your  go-to Café on the water.

Once I gave owner Scott Mosley the maps, I drooled over the freshly baked pastries on display, but was tight for time. I asked him how far I can walk on the trail heading towards Webster St. He thought it is now open all the way to Alameda Point. With a husky in tow, I have to get mileage in if I want to work in peace the rest of the day.

Got the dog and went trekking, promising I would be back soon to relax with a coffee & one of those great homemade pastries with Summer.

What a great walk along the shore of the Alameda/Oakland Estuary with water views, parks, natural habitat. We only did 1.5 mi out to catch a fun view and audible revelry (!) of the Youth Sailing Club out in front of Encinal Yacht Club on the water. Walking here was a completely different experience of Alameda –  from that shoreline. When I go back, I will definitely have one of Mosley’s pastries or focaccia. They have made focaccia with strawberries, blueberries and goat cheese, as well as with sausage, cheddar cheese and chives. Yum!

On my list for my next trek.

Join the Café crew  in the Grand Marina for a peaceful morning on the dock with Seven Seas organic coffee, freshly baked homemade pastries, grilled cheese sandwiches and more. Local beer and wine also for that late lunch.

Plus, they can’t wait to meet you!

The Experience, Alameda: The Local Coffee

The Experience:

Put the ‘Good’ back in your Morning!

Try their just brewed happiness in a cup – a cup of cortado* with oatmilk. It’s a Spanish beverage with roughly equal parts espresso and warm milk.  The milk is steamed, but not frothy. A perfect match with a wheat free coconut macaroon.

Good morning! *(cortar – to cut. The large amount of milk cuts the acidity of the coffee.)

Did you know that the Local is now serving the YUZU, an espresso tonic over ice?  And if you want a little kick, try their Mojito Fizzes with zesty lime, fresh mint and sparkling soda water

This location has been a coffee house for the past 20+ years. It’s one of the oldest buildings on Park Street, built in 1891 as the original Masonic Temple. The owners are continuing the tradition of ‘small-business coffee on Park Street’! Old fashioned furniture reminiscent of an old library, makes it the perfect ambiance for getting your work done. Hours: Mon – Fri 7:30am – 4pm; Sa/Su – 8:30am – 4pm.

About The Local

A community gathering place in  downtown Alameda, The Local is on the ground floor of the original Masonic Lodge building that has been at the heart of the community for over 130 years. New owner Soco Munkhod  reopened The Local after the pandemic to the delight of the community after it had shuttered in December of 2020. Fans hastily came back with their laptops sipping their Lattes and noshing on tasty pastries and sandwiches in this lovely  historic building.
